Reggaeton beats
Reggaeton runs on one rhythm everyone knows: the dembow, a kick and snare that bounce in a pattern you feel before you hear it. TH6 makes reggaeton beats to order, built around your hook and your references.
What reggaeton is
Reggaeton grew in Puerto Rico and Panama in the 1990s, out of reggae in Spanish, dancehall and hip-hop. Its beat comes from Jamaica: the dembow rhythm is named after the 1990 dancehall song "Dem Bow", whose riddim producers in Puerto Rico looped and rebuilt into a genre of its own.
Today reggaeton is one of the biggest sounds in the world, from club records to slow, romantic songs, and it mixes easily with pop, trap, R&B and afro.
The sound of a reggaeton beat
- Tempo: 85 to 100 BPM.
- Dembow: a kick on every beat and a snare that bounces in a 3+3+2 pattern, the backbone of every reggaeton beat.
- Bass: a deep 808 or synth bass that follows the chords.
- Melody: a catchy lead or chord loop on synths, plucks, guitar or piano, often in a minor key.
- Extras: percussion fills, lifts and drops that announce the hook.
Writing to a reggaeton beat
Reggaeton hooks are short, rhythmic and made to be sung back. Ride the dembow with your syllables: put the stresses on the snare hits and the line locks into the groove. A melody that repeats with small changes beats a long, complicated one.
A custom reggaeton beat from TH6
Send the reggaeton songs whose sound you want, from a club record to a slow, romantic one, and a voice memo of your hook. TH6 builds the dembow and the melody around it.
How a custom beat works
- Send references: two or three songs whose sound you want, your tempo if you know it, and a voice memo or demo.
- You get one price up front, based on your brief. There is no standard rate, because no two songs are the same job.
- TH6 builds a first version. You react, and the beat gets shaped around your song.
- You get the WAV, the stems and an exclusive licence in writing.
