Dial Tone

How Dial Tone is built

Dial Tone is a hip-hop beat at 98 BPM that keeps a steady pocket. Twice it drops away for a moment, at 0:59 and again at 1:58, and both times it comes back fuller, at 1:00 and at 2:01. Those two gaps split it into three clear parts, which lines up with verse, hook, verse, or with a verse that gains energy halfway.

Tempo, key and length

• Tempo: 98 BPM. In half time it feels like 49 BPM, which is how most artists count a hip-hop groove.
• Key: F#m. Its relative major is A major, so a hook written in A major fits without transposing.
• Length: 2:19, roughly 57 bars. That is room for two verses and a hook that comes back, or a shorter song with a longer intro.
• Produced by TH6.
