How Brownstone is built
Brownstone is the slowest beat in the catalogue at 92 BPM, and the only one made together with Birch. It starts in pieces, with quiet moments at 0:08 and 0:30 before the beat really lands at 0:32. After that it breathes: dips at 0:54 and 1:03, back at 1:08, and more short pauses at 1:25 and 1:59 before it winds down from 2:20. A beat for telling a story, where the pauses give the words room.
Tempo, key and length
- Tempo: 92 BPM. In half time it feels like 46 BPM, which is how most artists count a hip-hop groove.
- Key: A#m. Its relative major is C# major, so a hook written in C# major fits without transposing.
- Length: 2:28, roughly 57 bars. That is room for two verses and a hook that comes back, or a shorter song with a longer intro.
- Produced by TH6 x Birch.
